EIFFEL TOWER
The first time I saw the Eiffel Tower, it literally took my breath away! Yes,
you've seen it in movies perhaps, but seeing it in person is just unbelievable! It towers
over the city like a beacon of light, in contrast to Montparnasse, which is larger, but
dark, except for lights on the top. "Tour Eiffel" - as the French call it- so
completelydominates the landscape, in golden lights all night and white sparkles once an
hour for 10 minutes, you just can't seem to take your eyes off it!
After a ride on the Metro (more about that later), we returned to our hotel,
only to return to the Eiffel Tower the next day during daylight. Standing below it,
it's just immense! They gave us half an hour to get out an take photos, and I managed to
take about 50, but let me tell you, to get the whole thing into the picture I had to walk
way way up to some fountains at the Chaillot to get the picture, and that just about took my half hour.
Next time I saw the Tour Eiffel was during a ride on the river Seine at dusk
and evening. Since the tower is standing right next to the river, we got to see it real big
again.. and golden, and that was when I felt it to be its most magnifique. We drove by
the Louvre, Notre Dame, countless other grande buldings, which looked really
wonderful, but none as glorious as this fantastique Tour Eiffel! Its a sight I will forever
hold close to my heart!
That last night in Paris, we also visited Pont Alma, (Bridge Alma) where
Princess Di had her accident. The spot where the car hit the pillar has been left untouched.
Above the bridge, at a statue of a golden flame, people still leave flowers. The Eiffel Tower probably was the last thing she saw, for the bridge is very
short, underground, and pretty much right across from the Eiffel Tower, separated only
by the river Seine. We had taken the route she took on her last ride, from the Ritz
Hotel at the Place Vendome, to the bridge, its a very short and very beautiful ride.
One day I will return, and then will ride to the top of La Tour Eiffel!
